What profit is it to a man if he gains the whole world and loses his own soul?
Matthew 16:26.
One man spends his working life in a firm where his diligence and success are highly regarded. But not long after his retirement he is forgotten. Another was a respected member of the town council. For years he lived for the good and the development of the town. When he stepped down, it was regretted by all. At his funeral a huge crowd mourned his passing.
A third man has been able to afford many things from his youth on. Alongside his villa on the edge of the town he owns a holiday home by the sea. He travels a lot and enjoys life to the full. All three have lived a full life, marked by hard work, dedication, honour, wealth and pleasure. Maybe your life is also fully occupied, leaving little time for other things. Have you ever thought about eternity? You need to be saved from God’s coming judgment. Why? Because amid all the activity of your life some wrongdoings have accumulated. They need not have been serious offences.
Who among us could claim not to have had wicked thoughts or spoken malicious words. For God these are no mere trifles but sins in the truest sense of the word, for which He must one day punish us. Now, however, He is still offering us His pardon. By a sincere confession of guilt and through faith in the Saviour Jesus Christ we obtain forgiveness. Let us remember: taking care of the salvation of our soul is more important than a full life!
