A questionable hobby

Friend, how did you come in here without a wedding garment?

Matthew 22:12.

Claude Khazizian was a harmless pensioner, yet he was known as every bodyguard’s nightmare. His hobby was to smuggle himself into high society occasions and mix with the guests. There is a photo of him from the year 1995 with leading politicians from various countries. Khazizian knew just how to adapt himself to the occasion, wearing the correct dress and engaging in political small talk. So he was inconspicuous in such company.

In 1995 he also succeeded in attending a wedding of the Danish royal family and shaking hands with the bride and bridegroom. He had simply joined a group of the aristocracy!

In the parable that the Lord Jesus Christ told of the wedding of the king’s son a man had also slipped in. He had indeed been invited like every other guest. But he was not wearing the prescribed dress for the wedding. All the guests had to wear what the king himself had provided. This is intended to show us that no-one can stand before God in self-righteousness.

Nobody will be able to gate-crash his way into the glory of heaven. Neither a cloak of religion nor the command of Christian small talk will be of any use. The way to enter God’s glory is via Jesus Christ, the Lord and Saviour, alone, and that applies to every single person. And God will give the “robe of righteousness” (Isaiah 61:10) to everyone who puts his faith in Christ.
