The LORD looks from heaven; he sees all the sons of men.

Psalm 33:13.

We often read in the psalms that God looks down from heaven or that He surveys the earth. So long as God “looks down from heaven upon the children of men to see if there are any who understand, who seek God”, the result can only be that “they have all turned aside, they have together become corrupt; there is none who does good, no, not one”  (Psalm 14:2.3)

However, God was not satisfied with this shattering conclusion. He also “viewed the earth to hear the groaning of the prisoner, to release those appointed to death” (Psalm 102:19.20) In order to redeem us, His Son “came down from heaven” (John 6:38). Whoever acknowledges God’s authority over his life and turns to Him, confessing his guilt sincerely, passes “from death to life” (John 5:24).

If God sees all the children of men, then, naturally, He also sees those who have found real faith. He takes note of “all their works” (Psalm 33:15). All who have become His children through faith should always be aware of this! Let us lead our lives consciously under His eyes, under His gracious leading. Then we can also know that “the eye of the LORD is on those who fear him, on those who hope in his mercy” (Psalm 33:18).

God will be a help and a shield for them, rewarding their trust with joy and watching over them in His goodness (cf. Psalm 33:20-22).
