How to get saved?

Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and you will be saved.

Acts 16:31.

If we ask someone directly, “Are you saved?”, we often hear the answer that no-one can know that definitely; it will only become clear when God judges mankind. Many sinners have been saved and truly converted to God; they testify that they are assured of their salvation through the finished work of Christ. Yet many religious persons, who seek their salvation through their piety, consider such an assertion to be presumption and spiritual pride.

No-one should be influenced by such objections; we must listen to what the Word of God  states! When the prison governor in Philippi, in his trouble over his sinful state, asked, “What must I do to be saved?” he was given the answer: “Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and you will be saved.” Furthermore we read in Holy Scripture: “To him (i.e. Jesus Christ) all the prophets witness that, through his name, whoever believes in him will receive remission of sins” (Acts 10:43).

And what does the Lord and Saviour Himself say? “Most assuredly, I say to you, he who hears my word and believes in him who sent me has everlasting life, and shall not come into judgment, but has passed from death into life” (John 5:24). It is certainly not presumption for someone who truly believes on the Son of God to say, “I know that my Redeemer lives” (Job 19:25). His conviction of salvation through God’s grace is fully justified, for “the blood of Jesus Christ his Son cleanses us from all sin” (1 John 1:7).
