The Son of man has come to seek and to save that which was lost.

Luke 19:10.

This is a message that should attract attention! The eternal Son of God came to earth as a Man in order to save sinners! Does that mean anything to people today? Why do we need salvation? Haven’t got our lives under control, and aren’t there many others who are much worse than we are? We haven’t killed anyone. Nor do we steal or lie, at any rate not normally.

However we may estimate our integrity, do we really believe that we haven’t ever sinned? Don’t we need God’s offer of salvation at all? The Bible says: “There is none righteous, no, not one. … There is none who does good, no, not one” (Romans 3:10.12). That is how God sees people. So there is no chance that anyone can earn God’s favour on the basis of his assumed “blameless” life. If we consider this for a moment, we cannot fail to agree.

How can people get out of this dilemma? There is one way, and only one! That way is Jesus Christ. He came to earth to die for the sinful. On the cross of Calvary he bore the punishment for sins. Everyone must come to Him confessing his sins. Then God will grant forgiveness. The Lord Jesus Christ’s work of atonement will benefit all who turn from their ways of self-will and put their faith in Him. Everyone needs salvation, and everyone, without exception, is called on to accept it. Jesus Christ said, “The one who comes to me I will by no means cast out” (John 6:37).
