God … desires all men to be saved and to come to the knowledge of the truth.

1 Timothy 2:4.

There really are people who do not turn to Christ because they imagine themselves to be unfit for heaven. They think that God cannot forgive them, or that He is not interested in them. Neither of these ideas is true, God be thanked!

However good or bad anyone is or considers himself, however he may have ruined his life, God’s offer still applies to everyone. We are all of value to Him; so He wishes to win everyone over to Himself. Therefore there is hope for everybody. As human beings we often think differently, e.g. when someone has offended us, we tend to give him up and never want to see him again.

Jesus Christ, the Son of God, says, however, “Come to me, all you who labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest” (Matthew 11:28). On another occasion we hear Him say, “The one who comes to me I will by no means cast out” (John 6:37). What a wonderful promise!

It is possible that some fears having to live as a Christian and thinks, “I won’t keep it up! What God expects of a Christian is beyond me.” But no-one can achieve that of himself. Whoever tries to do so, will fail. The glorious thing is that God does not expect us to do so in our own strength. He knows only too well that we cannot. True Christian living is only possible in the power of the Holy Spirit, whom God gives to every believer. All is of God: He offers us His love in Jesus Christ. He grants us the strength to live as Christians. It is up to us to accept His offer.
