
Following Groups should consider Screening for Syphilis:
Men who have sex with men.
Men living with HIV
History of Incarceration
Prostitutes
Males under 29 years of age who live in high prevalence areas.
Diagnosis:
Dark-field microscopy, RPR and VDRL, FTA-ABS.
California, Massachusetts, North Carolina, South Carolina high rates of syphilis.
Treatment: Benzathine Penicillin G; If they are allergic to Penicillins, consider Desensitization.
HERPES:
Routine Genital Herpes infection is not recommended.
TUBERCULOSIS:
Screen for populations at increased risk;
Who Needs TB Testing: Immigrants, use of illicit drugs, HIV patients, Contact with people with active TB, prisoners, people who live in homeless shelters.
Testing: PPD, Quantiferon Gold, T-Spot.
ASPIRIN: Aspirin reduced the risk for nonfatal myocardial infarction, but NOT nonfatal stroke
