Lesbian atheist Camille Beredjick, a columnist for Hemant Mehta’s Friendly Atheist recently wrote a book titled ‘Queer Disbelief: Why LGBTQ Equality Is an Atheist Issue’. She argued passionately why we should treat LGBTQ individuals with equality, love and respect.
We all believe in equality. Atheists and theists alike believe that equality is a universal value. But the problem is there is no justification for equality in atheism. Atheists believe they are all evolved apes. How can you justify the claim, ‘Because we are all evolved apes, we ought to treat each other equally’. Can you imagine a group of chimps shouting, ‘We are all evolved apes, so we ought to treat one another with respect and love’?
In Christianity, we are all equal because we are all the children of one God. He created us with equal value and worth. God visited this planet as Jesus of Nazareth and commanded us that we ought to love one another. The problem is atheists do not realize that the universal values like equality and compassion are derived from Christianity. They have no justifiable foundation in atheism. They borrowed equality, compassion as moral principles from Christian faith.
