Matthew Paul Turner comes out as gay and divorces his wife

This week Christian children books author Matthew Paul Turner announced, “Dear friends, I have difficult news to share. After much thought, prayer, and counseling, Jessica and I have made the decision to end our marriage,”. “While we’re best friends and thoroughly love doing life, parenting, and pursuing our dreams together, ending our marriage is necessary because I am gay.”

“(A)s someone who spent 30+ years in fundamentalist/evangelical churches, exploring God through conservative theologies, I’ve lived many days overwhelmed by fear, shame, and self-hatred. But for the first time in my life, despite the sadness and grief I’m feeling right now, I can say with confidence that I’m ready to embrace freedom, hope, and God as a gay man.”

We can see the deceitfulness and destructiveness of sin in the life of Matthew Turner. You see sin starts as a desire and grows to dominate our flesh. We read in James 1:14,15

14 But every man is tempted, when he is drawn away of his own lust, and enticed.

15 Then when lust hath conceived, it bringeth forth sin: and sin, when it is finished, bringeth forth death.

Mr.Turner got tempted with homosexual desires. He was able to control those desires while he was spending ’30+ years in fundamentalist churches’. As a Christian author his fame grew fast, underneath his lust slowly grew and became sin. Now, he is cajoling himself that he finally got to ’embrace freedom, hope, and God as a gay man’. As his lust consumed him, he was ready to sacrifice his marriage with his dear wife Jessica and send his children away. This is the tragic path of many marriages which end in divorce and breakup because of sin.

The Bible unequivocally condemns the sin of homosexuality. You can read Genesis 19, Leviticus 18&20, Romans 1:18-32, 1 Corinthians 6:9-10; 1 Timothy 1:8-10. Christian Church until 1960s Sexual Revolution took a firm stand against homosexuality. But Mr.Turner was able to convince himself that he was doing the right thing in spite of clear teaching of the Scripture against his lustful behavior. That is the deceptiveness of sin. When we are neck deep in our lusts, our sins not only destroy us but also deceive us to think otherwise.

Mr.Matthew Paul Turner did not embrace ‘freedom, hope and God as a gay man’. In reality, he embraced enslavement, despair and Satan. Let us pray for his deliverance. Peace!
