These (signs) are written that you may believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God, and the believing you may have life in his name.
Of his fulness we have all received, and grace for grace.
John 20, 31; 1, 16.
The good news of Jesus Christ brings us a unique encouragement that we should consciously take hold of at the start of a new year. To all who are dissatisfied and disappointed the Lord Jesus promises: “Whoever drinks of the water that I shall give him will never thirst” (John 4, 14).
To all who hunger after the truth, He presents Himself as the bread of life: “He who comes to me shall never hunger” (John 6, 35). He tells whoever does not know to whom to turn: “I am the light of the world. He who follows me shall not walk in darkness, but have the light of life” (John 8, 12).
He assures those who cannot defend themselves or sense insecurity or fear that He is the Good Shepherd. His promise, “Neither shall anyone snatch them out of my hand” applies to those whom He has saved and who belong to Him (John 10, 28).
To all who are seeking after God and the sense of life. He says: “I am the way, the truth and the life” (John 14, 6). He reassures whoever weeps for a loved one: “I am the resurrection and the life. He who believes in me, though he may die, he shall live” (John 11, 25).
His promise to those who feel their loneliness is: “I am with you always” (Matthew 28, 20).
Jesus Christ is the friend who never disappoints us if we entrust our lives to Him.
