Saudi Arabia just lost its distinction as the world’s only nation where women are not allowed to drive. We should not blame the young prince for their problems. The suppression of women in Saudi Arabia goes back to Muhammad and Quran.
Muhammad was allowed to take multiple wives from free women and also slave women. Quran makes it clear:
Quran 33:50 O Prophet (Muhammad)! Verily, We have made lawful to you your wives, to whom you have paid their Mahr (bridal money given by the husband to his wife at the time of marriage), and those (captives or slaves) whom your right hand possesses – whom Allah has given to you.
A Muslim can marry up to four wives. Quran 4:3 says, then marry (other) women of your choice, two or three, or four.
In inheritance, women can only get half of what men get. Quran 4:11 states, Allah commands you as regards your children’s (inheritance); to the male, a portion equal to that of two females; if (there are) only daughters, two or more, their share is two thirds of the inheritance; if only one, her share is half.
Husbands are recommended to beat their wives: Quran 4:34 commands,
Men are in charge of women by [right of] what Allah has given one over the other and what they spend [for maintenance] from their wealth. So righteous women are devoutly obedient, guarding in [the husband’s] absence what Allah would have them guard. But those [wives] from whom you fear arrogance – [first] advise them; [then if they persist], forsake them in bed; and [finally], strike them. But if they obey you [once more], seek no means against them. Indeed, Allah is ever Exalted and Grand.
Compare Quran to Bible
Husbands, love your wives, even as Christ also loved the church, and gave himself for it. (Ephesians 5:25)
Jesus told Samaritan Woman: Whosoever drinketh of this water shall thirst again:14 But whosoever drinketh of the water that I shall give him shall never thirst; but the water that I shall give him shall be in him a well of water springing up into everlasting life. John 4:13-14
How tenderly Jesus offered the living waters to the Samaritan woman! Muslim women should come to Jesus and make Him their Savior and Lord. Only Christ will give their souls true freedom!
Quran is the word of man, while Bible is the Word of God. Let us hope Saudi Arabia will also allow the distribution of Bibles in that nation.
